Testimonial
"I am very satisfied with the service of Henry's housework. They quality and level of service is exceptional and I sincerely appreciate their prompt response to my request to replace roof tiles. In today's society, I find the level of work ethics and customer service has declined in a variety of professions. Henry's Housework is the exception to the rule. Please accept my appreciation Henry, and to Nichole of your staff for a quality job."
Evelyn Lee, Silver Spring MD

Need roof top snow removal services to remove snow from your roof?

Using a snow shovel roof areas can be safely cleared by a contractor with experience, the proper licensing and insurance.

Removing snow from roofs to prevent ice dams and roof structure damage should be done carefully, shoveling snow from roofs can cause a lot of damage to shingles if you don't know what your doing.

A lot of roofs in Montgomery County Maryland form ice dams on roof and gutter areas from heavy snows and inadequate insulation.

Inspect your homes snow covered roof for these items:

Snow drifts near exterior walls like in the photo above.
Snow buildup on the roof in excess of 12 inches or more.
Ice forming on the gutters or in the soffits on your home.
Are gutters areulling p away from the roof.

If you notice any of these problems, you should probably remove the snow from your roof to prevent ice dams and structural damages to your roof.  All homes are built differently of course so I would recommend asking your builder or a home inspector for their opinion.

Please do not attempt to do this yourself, hire a professional contractor with experience in removing snow and ice dams from roofs.

Before you consider removing snow or ice dams from your roof or attempt other solutions yourself, consider the following:

The streets and sidewalks outside are slippery enough, imagine working 20' up on a pitched, ice covered roof!  One slip and you have a long way to fall that could be fatal.

Your ladder could freeze causing you to slip off or it could slide out causing you to fall.

Your additional weight on the roof could cause it to collapse, with you on top of it.

Putting snow and ice melt products on the roofing could damage or stain the roofing and it may also void the roof manufacturers warranty.

Some home owners have tried using water to melt the snow off the roof.  This is a mistake, this will cause extra weight on your roof which could be disastrous.  It could cause structural damage to the roof or cause severe leaking problems.

While shoveling the snow off your roof you could cut, tear off or damage the shingles on your roof causing a leak.

Experienced contractors will use safety harnesses, ladder stabilizers and roof rakes to safely remove the snow with damaging your roof.

On some roofs snow causes ice dams to build as the snow melts on the roof, then freezes again over cooler areas of the roof. It mostly depends on the ventilation in your attic and the amount of snow on the roof.  If you have a contractor removing ice dams or contact you to
snow shovel roof areas on your home, make sure they don't damage your roof during the
snow removal, shovel roof areas carefully and make sure the shingles aren't damaged during the process.

On Channel 9 news and Channel 5 news our president, Henry Bockman discussed the causes of ice dams and the problems many home owners are facing with the extremely heavy amounts of snow we currently have on roofs.  To prevent water from coming into your home from ice dams, the snow and ice must be cleared from your roof to remove the ice dam blockage.  Please do not attempt to do this yourself!  This type of work is extremely dangerous if you don't know what your doing and you can cause significant damage to your roof!
