With the major amount of rain we recieved last year many of our clients have reported mildew all over their homes, decks and walkways. Unfortanetly with the amount of rainfall we recieved last year that will create problems on almost any surface. Most surfaces can be cleaned with household bleach to remove the mildew. However, do not use bleach on your deck and other wood surfaces. What many people don't know is that the chlorine in household bleach, will damage the woods lignen fibers. This causes them to break down quickly, signifigantly reduces the life of the wood. Lignen is the glue like substance that bonds the woods fiber together. On wood surfaces like decks you can use oxyginated bleach to kill the mold and mildew spores with out damaging the woods fibers.
